Refunds & Cancellations
Last updated: 8 September 2026 Effective: 8 September 2026
You cannot buy anything on this website. There is no checkout, no payment page and no card collection here. Everything we provide is arranged directly with us and confirmed in a written quotation or engagement letter — and that document, not this page, sets the commercial terms for your particular order.
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains, in general terms, how we approach cancellations and refunds across the services described on this website: consultation, tailored workshops and training, BLI Knowledge programmes, BLI Scientifics laboratory products, BLI Think Labs collaborations and BLI Molecular Services.
It is a statement of our general approach. The binding terms for any specific engagement are those in the written quotation, engagement letter, purchase order or contract you signed with us. Where the two differ, that document prevails.
2. How orders work
Because nothing is sold through this website, every engagement follows the same route:
- You contact us — through the form on this site, or by email.
- We discuss what you need.
- We issue a written quotation setting out scope, price, timing and payment terms.
- You confirm in writing. That is the point a contract is formed.
- We invoice you. Payment is made by bank transfer or another method agreed in writing.
Because there is no instant online purchase, there is no risk of an accidental or mistaken checkout, and you always have the quotation in front of you before anything is agreed.
3. Workshops, training & programmes
Scheduled sessions commit staff, laboratory time, materials and often a venue, so how much we can refund depends on how much notice you give. The specific notice periods and any deposit terms are set out in your booking confirmation. As a general rule:
- Good notice — we will normally refund in full, or move you to a later date at no charge.
- Short notice — we may retain a portion covering costs already committed on your behalf, such as consumables ordered or venue fees paid.
- After a programme has begun — fees are generally not refundable, though we will always consider genuine hardship or medical circumstances.
- Substitution — you may usually send a colleague in your place at no extra cost. Tell us beforehand.
4. Consultation & molecular services
Research consultation, experimental design and laboratory services are charged for the work performed. You may cancel an ongoing engagement at any time by writing to us; we will invoice for work completed and properly committed up to that point, and refund any balance you have paid in advance.
Laboratory work that has already been carried out cannot be undone, so it cannot be refunded simply because the result was not the one you hoped for. A negative or inconclusive scientific result is a valid result, not a defective service. If work was not performed to a proper professional standard, that is a different matter — tell us and we will repeat it or refund it.
5. Laboratory products & reagents
For BLI Scientifics supplies, tell us within a reasonable period of delivery if anything is damaged, incorrect, or not as described, and we will replace it or refund it. Please keep the packaging and send us a photograph where you can.
Some items cannot be accepted back once delivered, for reasons of scientific integrity and safety rather than commercial convenience:
- Cold-chain items, once they have left our control, because we cannot verify how they were stored;
- Opened or part-used reagents, kits and consumables, where sterility or integrity cannot be guaranteed;
- Items made, prepared or sourced specifically to your order;
- Anything past its expiry date at the time of return.
None of this limits your rights where an item was faulty or misdescribed when it reached you.
6. Internships
Applications are made through internships.bioloomislands.com, which has its own terms. Where an internship or placement carries a fee, the refund terms will be stated in your offer or placement agreement.
7. If we cancel or cannot deliver
If we cancel a workshop, cannot deliver a service, or cannot supply a product you have paid for, you will be offered either a full refund or an alternative date or item — your choice. We will tell you as soon as we know.
Where events beyond reasonable control interrupt a service — for example a laboratory closure, a serious supply-chain failure, or a public emergency — we will reschedule where we can and refund the unused portion where we cannot.
8. How to request a refund
Email info@bioloomislands.com with your invoice or quotation reference, what you are asking for, and why.
- We aim to acknowledge within 3 working days;
- We aim to decide within 14 working days, and will explain our reasoning;
- Approved refunds are paid to the account the payment came from, normally within 14 working days of approval;
- Bank charges or currency-conversion differences on international transfers are outside our control.
If you are unhappy with our decision, say so — a real person will review it. We would always rather resolve a disagreement directly than have you take it further.
9. Your statutory rights
Nothing in this policy removes or reduces your rights under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003 of Sri Lanka, or under any mandatory consumer-protection law that applies where you live. Where a legal right gives you more than this policy does, the law wins.
